According to the statistics of the National Institute of Public Health (SZÚ), more than 100,000 patients are treated annually in the Czech Republic for this type of injury. Of these, 40% are children. However, nine out of ten cases can be prevented with effective prevention! Emphasis on higher safety and the use of effective protective equipment are, according to experts, the main factors that can prevent burns and minimize risks. The same idea led to the creation of the new project Safe in the Kitchen, organized by the companies Aramark and Potten & Pannen – Staněk.
The largest provider of catering services in the Czech Republic and a seller of premium kitchen equipment have improved one of the common protective tools that is part of the kitchen equipment of practically every household. In their version, it has become an important helper that can prevent dangerous burns. It is, of course, the classic kitchen protective glove, colloquially known as an “oven mitt.” However, it differs from others commonly available by its length, which helps prevent burns in the forearm and wrist area, and it is made up of up to four layers.
“By using this kitchen glove, you protect your hands from burns, and additionally support the Burn Medicine Clinic FNKV in Prague, whose mission is the treatment and prevention of burns,” explains Vladimír Staněk, CEO of Aramark. He adds that the special glove for the Safe in the Kitchen project was made by the sheltered workshop ERGO Zlín. We chose certified materials of the highest durability for the production of the mitts. There are two inner fillings (compared to the standard one filling), which reflect heat and fire, and the inner layer of the aluminum pad even slows down burning. The glove itself has an ergonomic shape for both right-handed and left-handed users, and additionally, an extended length for forearm protection, which is a common site of burns.
The company Aramark is well aware of the risks associated with cooking, so it will also purchase a thousand of these special gloves for all its operations and focus on intensive education of its employees. With this step, it aims to inspire other restaurant facilities across the country to educate as well.
“We all care about protecting our loved ones, and we are therefore pleased to offer households a tool that further enhances kitchen safety,” adds Pavel Staněk, co-owner of Potten & Pannen – Staněk. The new product is exclusively available in brick-and-mortar stores and on the website pottenpannen.cz.
The step of both companies is also welcomed by the management of the Burn Medicine Clinic FNKV in Prague, headed by Robert Zajíček. The clinic provides specialized treatment and preventive care to patients dealing with thermal injuries or their consequences. Part of the treatment includes comprehensive care for scar-related injury consequences, including laser therapy and reconstructive surgery.
